Front Entrance

The clients wanted a fairly private house even though the corner lot leaves them quite exposed. So unlike many of the houses in The Village, this one does not have a front porch, but rather a small, enclosed entrance right down at ground level. The inspiration for the Dutch influence in the design came from old family connections to the Netherlands.

West Facade facing the Orchard

The west facade (still unfinished) of the house faces an expansive view over seemingly endless orchards. It also forms the western boundary of 'The Village', so it was given a fairly formal treatment. A second, symmetrical, rear chimney was removed from the design in a cost-cutting exercise.

En Filade The Breakfast Room

(Far left) The principal rooms are arranged "en filade", that is, so that you can pass from one to another directly.

Two details from the unfinished
Master En Suite, all in Carrera marble.

The Great Room Ceiling

The coffered ceiling of the Great Room would not quite fit the lens I had with me on this visit. This project was completed with only the barest of design drawings so the contractor, Ken Martens of Brooklite Homes, deserves much credit in pulling this off.
